Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Vanishd services ("Services"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use our Services.

2. Description of Service

Vanishd provides a third-party attestation service for data destruction claims. Our service:

  • Creates cryptographic receipts for deletion claims you submit
  • Anchors those receipts to the Internet Computer blockchain
  • Provides verification of those receipts to any party

Important: Vanishd does NOT delete your data. You are responsible for actually deleting data. We only attest that you claimed to delete it at a specific time.

3. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Provide accurate information when creating an account, including a valid email address
  • Keep your API keys confidential and secure
  • Promptly revoke any API key you believe has been compromised
  • Not use the service for any illegal purpose
  • Not attempt to circumvent rate limits or abuse the service
  • Be responsible for your own compliance with applicable data protection laws
  • Not share login credentials or authentication sessions

3.1 Authentication Methods

We offer multiple authentication methods for your convenience:

  • Internet Identity: A decentralized identity system on the Internet Computer blockchain
  • OAuth (GitHub, Google): Third-party authentication via your existing accounts
  • Email Magic Links: Secure, single-use links sent to your email

Regardless of authentication method, all users receive the same features and capabilities. Your account is linked to your email address, which is required for billing, notifications, and account recovery.

3.2 Tier Classifications

Our service offers two distinct product classes:

  • Receipt Tiers (Free, Pro, Scale, Enterprise): For organizations that create deletion attestations
  • Auditor Tier: For third-party auditors and compliance teams that verify attestations

Important: These product classes are mutually exclusive. An account on a receipt tier cannot switch to Auditor tier, and vice versa. This separation prevents conflicts of interest between attestation creators and verification services. If you require both capabilities, please contact support about separate accounts.

4. Attestation, Not Certification

Vanishd provides attestation, not certification. Our receipts prove that you claimed to delete data at a specific time. We do not verify that you actually deleted the data, nor do we guarantee compliance with any specific regulation. You are responsible for ensuring your data handling practices comply with applicable laws.

5. Payment Terms and Overages

Paid plans are billed monthly via Stripe. Payments are non-refundable except as described below.

Verification and Audit-Related Costs

Verification of receipts may incur costs beyond your plan's included allowance. When you exceed included verification volume (e.g., 50,000/month for Auditor tier), overages are billed automatically via Stripe at the end of each billing period—no contact required. Whether you use our SDK, API, or our managed verification service (e.g., Auditor Console), the same limits and overage rules apply. Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You retain full access to your tier until the period ends.

Money-Back Guarantee

New subscribers may request a full refund within 14 days of their initial subscription, provided no production receipts have been created during that period. Test receipts do not affect eligibility. After 14 days, or once production receipts have been created, no refunds are issued. Your subscription continues until the end of the billing period.

Usage Limits and Overages

Each plan includes a monthly receipt quota. If you exceed your quota:

  • Free tier: Overages are billed at a flat rate of 1.99¢ per receipt. Your first 250 receipts per month are included free. Free accounts are limited to 1 API key
  • Pro tier: Overages are billed at a sliding scale starting at 0.79¢ per receipt, decreasing to 0.25¢ at high volume
  • Scale tier: Overages are billed at a sliding scale starting at 0.49¢ per receipt, decreasing to 0.25¢ at high volume

Overage charges are calculated automatically and billed at the end of each billing period. You can monitor your usage in the dashboard and upgrade your plan at any time to increase your quota.

6. Account Suspension and Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts in the following circumstances:

  • Frozen (temporary): Accounts may be frozen for investigation of suspicious activity, payment issues, or potential Terms of Service violations. Frozen accounts can view data but cannot create new keys or receipts.
  • Disabled (permanent): Accounts may be permanently disabled for confirmed Terms of Service violations, fraud, abuse, or legal requirements. Disabled accounts cannot access the service.

If your account is frozen or disabled, you will see a notification in your dashboard. To appeal a decision, contact hey@vanishd.io.

7. Immutability of Blockchain Records

Once an attestation is anchored to the blockchain, it cannot be deleted or modified. By using our service, you acknowledge and accept that attestation records are permanent and public. Do not submit any information that you may need to delete or modify in the future.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vanishd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses.

9. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The underlying ICP blockchain's availability is outside our control.

10. Modifications to Terms

We may modify these terms at any time. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms. Material changes will be communicated via email or through the service.
